After posting last on Friday, we had a "Pub Quiz" at Glouster Arms Pub right around the corner with our AIFS group, which was good to get to know another local spot to hang out.
Saturday morning I went on a BBC Studio tour which was really neat! We walked through a bunch of studios and the newsroom, and I even got to be on TV as a weatherman! The tour guide noted that I did exceptionally well! =)
Next, a smaller group of us took the tube and explored Borough Market, which was fantastic!!!! It was so fun to walk around, be a part of the community, and check out all of the different foods... which were delicious!! Definitely a new favorite spot that I can't wait to share with the fam when they come to visit!!
Next, we hopped over to Portobello Market on Portobello Road, which was also tons of fun! This market offered lots of street vendors with antiques, jewelry, scarves, souvenirs etc. that were fun to walk through!
Saturday evening, we had an AIFS pub crawl throughout Kensington! We visited Builders Arms, Prince of Wales, Churchill Arms, Swan, and lastly Notting Hill Arts Club! What a night!!
This morning I toured the Chelsea Football Club which was very cool! We got to see all around the stadium, the press room, and both locker rooms. We had a fun guide and it was exciting to see such a big part of British sports culture!
(this one's for you Drew!)
In the afternoon, I did my first London grocery shopping at Sainsbury's which was great, and lastly this evening I went on a Jack the Ripper walking tour around "The City" of London. It was very creepy, but also super cool to think about a grungy and gory episode in London's history!
To finish off our orientation week, Allyson and I enjoyed delicious milkshakes from Wafflemeiser which were simply, wonderful!!
It has been a busy first week here in London! I am pretty exhausted from all of the excitement... and all of the walking! While the orientation to this new area has been loads of fun, I am excited to begin classes tomorrow and develop a regular schedule here!!
