I am so glad that our breakfasts and dinners are included in our meal plan here at Richmond. While they are not always the best... I am getting used to it. My personal favorites are the Belgium Waffles with pearl sugar and giant croissants for breakfast and the hot chocolate machine (which I believe I have taken advantage of for every meal here so far!:)) After stocking up at the grocery store (Sainsbury's) last weekend, I have been getting on well without having to buy lunches too!
First day of school selfie :)
Monday: Video Production and History of London Lecture
Tuesday: no classes!
Wednesday: British Art and Architecture and History of London Trip
Thursday: Pixel Playground
Friday: no classes!
All of my professors have unique European accents which is "brilliant"! (Londoners say that all the time in their British accents...love it!) Both History of London and British Art and Architecture seem like such relevant classes... I am very excited to get going into them. After visiting the Victoria and Albert Museum with History of London on Wednesday, and viewing a ton of the stuff we have talked about so far, I think I am going to love having those two electives where I can really get into the museums and galleries around London! Video Production also seems like it will be a lot of work, but hopefully rewarding if I can produce some good final presentations! Lastly, pixel playground seems like a lot of fun looking at how images convey messages and we will get to do a few case studies which sound cool! My tutor, Sam, in that class talks a mile a minute too, so I will definitely have to stay focused and on top of things in there!
Definitely a more relaxed academic atmosphere here than I am used to at Grove City College. We are to call all of our tutors by their first names and everyone wears jeans and sweaters! Since the class times are longer, we also have a few minutes break every once in a while for tea! (or whatever else we choose) And we have a Starbucks on the main floor of our classroom building which is the cool student hangout during the day.
On Tuesday, Allyson and I explored all 5 levels and every exhibit of the Science Museum! We took most of the day Tuesday just wandering around this fantastic museum for free, and it is only about 20 minutes walk from Atlantic House! I especially loved hearing all of the British children in their school groups enjoying the attractions alongside us!
In the evenings, some new friends and I have also had fun taking walks. On Wednesday we even ventured as far as Harrods along Hyde Park! (In the rain of course!)
This evening I tried out a free yoga class here at Atlantic House and I am looking forward to some fun events coming up this weekend!
All in all a great first week of classes, here in London! =)
