We had our first snow here on Tuesday, so that was quite exciting. It was nothing compared to what has been going on in the States, but still waking up to a dusting of snow is pretty!! =)
On Wednesday, I explored the Tate Britain again with my Art and Architecture class. This time we focused on portrait paintings by Thomas Gainsborough and Sir Joshua Reynolds.
After that I walked through the City of Westminster to get to my second destination! It was a beautiful day, and I loved being able to walk through such a popular and exciting area of London!
For History of London class, we took a walk along The Strand and Fleet Street while we learned about Samuel Johnson (a very influential English writer) and 18th Century London.
Dr. Johnson's cat who he famously wrote was, "a very fine cat, a very fine cat indeed."
Dr. Samuel Johnson's house in Gough Square.
A traditional British pub that has been on this location since 1538, rebuilt in 1666 after the Great Fire of London.
Fleet Street was the hub of all English newspapers from London's earliest days through the 1980s.
This is a traditional clock face of London's historic Fleet Street. The shop signs and clocks used to be huge, until they became dangerous and were known to have fallen and killed a number of people.
An English Tea Shop since 1706.
I finished off the afternoon at the Sir John Soane's (a famous English architect) Museum.
Today's most exciting event was a free chocolate festival at the Whole Foods Grocery Store right down the street! There was a chocolate fountain and countless chocolate samples around the store... needless to say I went twice! They were even handing out roses!!
This weekend, I am very excited to see my Dad, who is coming to visit!!!!! =)
Signing off for tonight!
