Biking through Berlin!

Berlin was awesome this weekend!!

After enjoying a terrific flight with British Airways on Friday morning, we arrived at our hostel in Berlin, Germany... The Cat's Pajamas!

Next, a group of us went out to explore Berlin.  One of the girl's friends is studying abroad there, so he took us all around to the best sites in Berlin!  Here are some pictures from the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall, and the Ritter Sport German chocolate shop!

We enjoyed authentic German currywurst for lunch, and had fun wandering through the Checkpoint Charlie museum in the evening too!

For a late dinner, we went to Masaniello's Italian Restaurant!

On Saturday, we took a bike tour for most of the day all around Berlin, which was fantastic!!!  It included stops along the Berlin Wall, Museum Island, the Library and courtyard where the books were burned, a church (and it's copy) built as an offering to the French, the Murdered Jews Memorial, Murdered Homosexuals Memorial, the parking lot location where Hitler killed himself, the location of the oldest synagogue in Europe, Little Istanbul, a hundred year old ball room, and the Brandenburg Gate just to name a few!  It was a white knuckle ride at times, going through such a busy and bustling city, but overall it was a really terrific way to get around Berlin and also hear about its' rich history!

In the afternoon we ventured out to Olympic Stadium to get some pictures!!  It was cool to hear cheering as a game was going on inside, and some fans even surprised me and jumped into a picture with me!

We also climbed Victory Column, right at sunset which was awesome!!

We finished off the evening touring Reichstag (German Parliament) and eating German "doners" from a street vendor for dinner!

All in all a great weekend!! I must admit, I have experienced some homesickness recently too.  Especially after long days of traveling and exploring, it is easy to really miss the family and wish I could just sit around the kitchen table with them and catch up!! All a part of this whole study abroad experience too I suppose!

Off to a fabulous start to spring break in Berlin.... tomorrow I am heading off once again to ICELAND!! Will finally be experiencing those freezing temperatures you all are experiencing in the states! =)
